Also in professional sport there is what is called 'The Zone' where your capacity to perform is at such a level, it's almost a mystical experience being in it. The mind seems to be hypnotized by the job at hand and plays a pro-active role in performance.
The main point is... MENTAL DISCIPLINE is required to perform well, not only at sport, but in all facets of life... to train your mind to serve you, is one of the most worthwhile pursuits a person can apply themselves to, as the rewards are obvious... for my own part, it reduces the amount of time spent in psychiatric hospital acute wards.
The term..."TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE"... must be preceded by... "TAKE CHARGE OF YOUR MIND."
Be conscious of your consciousness and what it's doing, and take an administrative role on what it's allowed to think... ie... decide what is acceptable and what isn't and refuse to be rushed on making those decisions.
A Schizophrenic Mind is usually a mind operating too fast to be controlled and effort is required to step on the brakes. A person who takes no action on what their mind is allowed to do will become unwell... So a schizophrenic may actually be a person with lazy mind administration... The key is to be STERN with your mind... Click Here for how to go about it.
Even the sanest people can attest to a new 'catchy' musical tune being in their mind at some stage and refusing to stop. It requires disciplining the mind to control this kind of thing, becoming a bad mental habit.
The idea of mental 'boot camp' is something that could curtail wayward mental behaviour, which is first exhibited in a child's failure at "Simon says..." that is to say, a reflex reactional mind, rather than a mind that listens attentively and responds after careful consideration prior to action. So the children who fail first at "Simon says..." in a class, should be seen as requiring more discipline, applied to their minds, to 'Nip-in-the bud", what could be mental looseness in their future adult life.
To reason with a patient who gives heed to 'The Voices', one must indicate to them, that they don't believe the people they perceive in their dreams are real, so why should they believe the voices they hear when they're awake are real.
